That Dam, Religious stupa in central Vientiane, Laos
The tall brick structure stands at a circular intersection, with its darkened exterior surface showing signs of aging and natural weathering over time.
The religious monument dates from the 15th century and lost its gold covering during the Siamese invasion of Vientiane in 1828.
Local residents consider the stupa a sacred place connected to the legend of a seven-headed Naga snake that protected the city from invaders.
The monument remains accessible day and night without entrance fees, situated near the morning market between Chantha Khoumane and Bartholonie roads.
The structure features an uncommon black coloration due to natural aging processes, distinguishing it from other religious monuments in the region.
