Haw Phra Kaew, Buddhist temple and museum in Vientiane, Laos
The stone temple stands on Setthathirath Road, featuring detailed carvings on its walls, columns, and mythological Naga statues at the entrance steps.
King Setthathirath constructed the temple in 1565 to house the Emerald Buddha, which remained there until Siamese forces captured it in 1779.
The museum exhibits an extensive collection of religious artifacts, including Buddha statues, bronze drums, stone steles, and traditional Buddhist manuscripts on palm leaves.
The museum opens daily from morning until evening, allowing visitors to explore the religious art collection and stone carvings in natural daylight.
A 2,000-year-old stone jar from the Plain of Jars sits within the landscaped grounds, connecting different archaeological periods of Laotian history.
