Presidential Palace, Government palace in Vientiane, Laos.
The Presidential Palace stands near the Mekong River, featuring tall colonnades, shaded balconies, and French-influenced Beaux-Arts architecture spanning multiple floors.
Construction of the palace began in 1973 under the Royal Lao Government, but political changes led to delays until its official opening in 1986.
The palace design by architect Khamphoung Phonekeo combines French architectural elements with traditional Laotian building characteristics.
While the palace interior remains closed to visitors, the exterior and grounds can be viewed from Lane Xang Avenue or Quai Fa Ngum.
The Presidential Palace appears on the Laotian 50,000 kip banknote and illuminates at night, creating a prominent landmark against the Vientiane skyline.
