Deduru Oya Dam is an embankment dam in Kurunegala District that creates a large reservoir for water storage and irrigation. The structure features eight sluice gates for regulating water flow and delivers water through canal networks to agricultural areas across the region.
Planning for this dam commenced in 2008 following detailed site investigations and construction was completed in 2014. The project represented a major water management initiative for the region.
The dam serves multiple agricultural communities in the region, supporting traditional farming practices through three main irrigation canals: Left, Central, and South.
The best time to visit is during drier months when water levels are more stable and access around the site is easier. It is recommended to explore pathways around the reservoir and view the overall installation from elevated spots.
A specialized canal system connects this installation to the Inginimitiya Reservoir and also supplies a small hydroelectric power facility. This technical connection makes it part of a larger water management network serving the region.
