Neris Regional Park, Regional park in Vilnius District Municipality, Lithuania.
Neris Regional Park is a large protected area in the Vilnius region dominated by extensive forest coverage and crossed by the Neris River. The landscape comprises multiple nature reserves that safeguard different ecosystems and natural habitats within the park's boundaries.
The protected area was established in 1992 to safeguard landscapes shaped by human activity over many centuries. It spans across three separate municipal territories and contains multiple archaeological sites representing earlier periods.
The park protects areas tied to traditional Lithuanian ways of living and holds places of cultural importance scattered across its grounds. You can encounter these sites naturally as you explore the various trails throughout the territory.
The Visitors Centre in Dūkštos village serves as the main entry point and is accessible by car via road 171 from Vilnius or road 108 from Kaunas. It's best to arrive by vehicle since the park's various areas are spread out and difficult to reach on foot.
The park holds one of Lithuania's largest remaining concentrations of old oak trees, which create an impressive presence throughout the forests. These trees are older than most buildings in the nearby cities and shape the character of the woodland at every turn.
