Vilnius Cathedral, Neoclassical cathedral in Old Town, Lithuania
The Cathedral of St Stanislaus and St Vladislaus features a columned exterior, a bell tower, and multiple chapels decorated with marble and frescoes.
Initially constructed as a wooden structure in 1387, the cathedral underwent several reconstructions until architect Laurynas Gucevičius completed the current design in 1783.
The cathedral holds forty artistic works from the 16th to 19th centuries and contains the tomb of Vytautas the Great in its underground crypts.
Located at Katedros aikštė 1, the cathedral opens daily from 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM with free entrance and guided tours available for the crypts.
The building stands on the former site of a pagan temple dedicated to Perkūnas, the Lithuanian thunder god, representing the transition from paganism to Christianity.
