Hill of Witches, Sculpture garden and summit in Juodkrantė, Lithuania.
The Hill of Witches is a sculpture garden with more than 80 wooden carved figures scattered along winding paths through a forest. The sculptures vary in size and style, forming a network of artworks that guide visitors through different heights and corners of the site.
The hill was a place for pagan rituals in pre-Christian times. Over time it became a festival location, and later in the 20th century was transformed into an art project to display folk figures.
The carved figures show characters from Lithuanian folk tales and mythology. They were created by local artists and tell stories of demons, witches, and traditional characters known in the region.
The site is freely accessible year-round and requires no booking. The paths are natural but walkable, though sturdy footwear helps, especially when the ground is wet.
Many sculptures are designed so visitors can touch and interact with them, such as sitting on carved thrones or walking through wooden gates decorated with faces. This playful element makes the place more of an experienced art collection than a passive display.
