Debrecenas, Residential district in Klaipeda, Lithuania.
Debrecenas is a residential district extending south of Pempininkai in Klaipeda, bounded by Taikos street to the west and Gedminai to the east. The area features multiple apartment blocks with large courtyards, schools, shopping facilities, and extensive green spaces throughout.
The district developed mainly during the 1970s and 1980s when numerous residential blocks were constructed as Klaipeda expanded southward. This growth period shaped the area as a typical Soviet-era residential neighborhood.
The district takes its name from Debrecen in Hungary, reflecting a city partnership established during Soviet times. Residents use the broad courtyards between apartment blocks as everyday gathering spaces and play areas.
The district is well equipped with schools, shopping facilities, and green spaces providing essential services for residents. The spacious layout between buildings makes it easy to navigate and find your bearings throughout the area.
Architect Alfredas Gytis Tiskus designed the district's first shopping center in 1975, introducing self-service retail concepts that were new to Klaipeda. This made the center a pioneer of modern shopping practices in the city.
