Church of Mary, Queen of Peace, Klaipėda

The Church of Mary, Queen of Peace is a Catholic place of worship with a 46.5-meter tower that rises above much of Klaipėda and the surrounding landscape. The building displays modern construction with simple, clear forms characteristic of when it was built.

The building was constructed in the late 1950s and later served as a concert hall before returning to Catholic use following political changes in 1989. This shifting history of use reflects the major political transformations the country experienced.

The church displays black and white photographs showing how construction proceeded and how the building was used across different chapters of Lithuanian history. These images tell the story of transformations the place experienced.

The church is open daily for worship services at various times, and the parish office is reachable on weekdays. The tower can be visited by arrangement, which allows time to look at historical photographs displayed in the stairwell.

Visiting the bell area requires advance arrangement with the parish, but this allows visitors to see historical images displayed along the stairs during the climb. The ascent offers both a view over the city and a direct experience of the building's past.
