Klaipeda Sculpture Park

Klaipeda Sculpture Park is a 12-hectare space housing 116 modern artworks by 67 Lithuanian artists arranged in an L-shaped layout between four main streets. The works use varied materials including stone, metal, and wood, positioned throughout the grounds for visitors to encounter at different points.

The site once held Memel Central Cemetery from 1820 until 1959, serving as a burial ground for many generations. Some original tombstones remain visible among the sculptures today, marking the land's past as a place of remembrance.

The sculptures represent distinct artistic approaches and materials chosen by different creators, showing how Lithuanian artists worked during a transformative period. Walking through, you notice the range of styles that coexist in the same space, from abstract forms to figurative works.

The park is open day and night and free to access, with QR codes placed near each sculpture providing details about the artwork. It helps to observe the different materials and sizes as you move through the L-shaped area.

What sets this space apart is how modern art installations sit alongside preserved cemetery elements, creating an unexpected encounter between contemporary creativity and historical memory. This juxtaposition invites visitors to reflect on how past and present can coexist.
