Jiesia Landscape Reserve, Nature reserve in Kaunas County, Lithuania.
Jiesia Landscape Reserve covers 447.6 hectares of river valley with steep slopes and exposed rock layers along the Jiesia River. The river has carved deep ravines over time, creating visible geological formations throughout the site.
The reserve was designated in recent decades to protect the natural valley landscape and its geological features. These protections emerged from growing environmental awareness across Lithuania.
The reserve serves as a natural classroom where students and researchers observe forest habitats and river ecosystems firsthand. You often encounter groups on the paths studying plants or watching birds.
A marked trail of about 2 kilometers connects the main viewpoints and runs along the steep riverbanks. The terrain is uneven and requires sturdy footwear and time to walk safely.
The gorge walls display colored soil layers arranged in stripes that reveal time periods spanning thousands of years. Close observation of this natural wall allows visitors to read the region's soil history.
