The reserve was designated in recent decades to protect the natural valley landscape and its geological features. These protections emerged from growing environmental awareness across Lithuania.

A marked trail of about 2 kilometers connects the main viewpoints and runs along the steep riverbanks. The terrain is uneven and requires sturdy footwear and time to walk safely.
