Ekrano gamyklos tvenkinys, reservoir in Lithuania
Ekrano gamyklos tvenkinys is a man-made reservoir in the Panevėžys region, created when the Nevėžis River was dammed. The water body stretches about 6 km from north to south, with tree and shrub-covered banks that are often steep and natural in appearance.
The reservoir was built in 1979-1980 to supply water for the Ekrano factory and provide recreation to the region. The dammed river quickly filled to create a water body that became used by local people for fishing and leisure.
The reservoir is accessible from surrounding villages via roads and offers opportunities for fishing and boating from the shore. Visitors should note that permits are required for certain activities and the banks can be muddy or overgrown in places.
The reservoir was engineered with complex spillway gates designed to manage water levels and prevent flooding downstream. These engineering structures, visible from certain vantage points, remain an interesting example of Soviet-era industrial infrastructure.
