Church of the Assumption, Merkinė, Gothic and Baroque church in Merkinė, Lithuania.

The Church of the Assumption is a house of worship that combines Gothic elements such as pointed-arch windows and three-tier buttresses with Baroque features including decorated pilasters and curved ornaments on the pediment. The structure has a clearly defined exterior with a spacious interior layout that reflects multiple artistic periods.

The building was founded in the late 14th century as a Gothic structure. By the mid-17th century, Baroque elements were added to its design, significantly altering its appearance and creating the building visitors see today.

The interior contains five wooden altars spanning the 17th to 19th centuries, showing how religious art evolved in Lithuania over time. Each altar reflects the artistic preferences and craftsmanship of its era, giving visitors a sense of changing tastes in worship spaces.

The building is accessible on foot and welcomes visitors during regular hours. It is best to follow local guidance and be respectful, as this is an active place of worship where services take place.

It is the only surviving church from the time when Merkinė had four religious buildings and served as an important spiritual center. This survival makes it a rare link to the town's formerly more prominent past.
