Bourscheid Castle, Medieval castle in Bourscheid, Luxembourg.
Bourscheid Castle is a stone fortress rising about 150 meters above the Sûre River, with eleven towers connected by a circular defensive wall. The complex includes residential areas, fortified passages, and multiple buildings that form a complete medieval stronghold.
The fortress was founded around 1001 and underwent major rebuilding in the 14th and 15th centuries, when Gothic towers and reinforced walls were added. These changes made it one of the strongest fortifications in the region.
The castle shows how noble families lived in medieval times, with spaces for living, defense, and ruling the surrounding territory.
The site is open from Thursday to Tuesday and offers guided tours along with audio guides in multiple languages. The grounds are fairly large and require some time to explore properly, especially if you wish to climb the towers.
Inside the complex stands the Stolzembourg House, a Gothic manor from 1384 that reveals how wealthy families lived in comfort during medieval times. This building is a rare example of noble domestic life from that era.
