Wasserbillig Aquarium

Wasserbillig Aquarium is a facility in Mertert with 15 distinct tanks of varying sizes that display fish species from five continents in their natural environments. The tanks range from small displays holding 300 liters to a large main exhibition holding 40,000 liters of water.

Wasserbillig Aquarium was founded in 1975 and became an educational center on the banks of the River Sauer. Since its opening, this place has maintained its role as an important venue for sharing knowledge about aquatic life.

The aquarium serves as a learning center where visitors can watch daily feeding sessions and understand how fish from different regions of the world behave.

The facility is open daily from 10 AM to 5 PM from Easter through September, with reduced hours during winter months. Plan to spend at least one to two hours for a complete visit to view all the tanks at a comfortable pace.

The largest tank brings together native species like pike and exotic inhabitants such as piranhas in one display, an unusual pairing that visitors often find surprising. This combination demonstrates the range of aquatic life in an unexpected way.
