Meysembourg Castle, Renaissance Revival castle in Larochette, Luxembourg
Meysembourg Castle is a manor house in Neo-Renaissance style, set on raised ground near Larochette and surrounded by dense forest. Its facades are symmetrical and decorated with ornamental details, giving the building a formal appearance that stands out against the trees.
A first fortification was built on this site in the 12th century, establishing it as a point of control in the region. In the 1880s, the structure was fully redesigned under professional architectural direction, replacing the medieval layout with its current form.
The name Meysembourg refers to a noble family that shaped this part of Luxembourg for generations. The building sits apart from the village, surrounded by trees, giving it a withdrawn character that visitors notice immediately when passing on foot.
The castle is privately owned and not open to visitors, but its exterior can be seen from the surrounding area on foot. The nearby L2 hiking route passes close enough to offer a clear view of the facade and the forest around it.
In August 2000, the castle grounds hosted an international hot air balloon competition, filling the forest clearing with color for several days. For a private estate of this kind, such an event was a rare opening to the outside world.
