Stade du Thillenberg

Stade du Thillenberg is a football stadium in Differdange with a distinctive layout where a large terraced section is built directly into the hillside and a wooden grandstand accommodates around 6,300 spectators. The facility makes clever use of the sloping terrain to integrate seating and playing space.

Construction began in 1921 and the stadium opened in 1922, with the first major alteration occurring in 1925 when the playing field was enlarged. This expansion transformed it into a venue for Luxembourg's national matches over the following decades.

The stadium served as a hub for national football matches and shaped the sporting identity of the town for decades. The stands today remain a testament to this former importance in Luxembourg's football landscape.

The facility now serves primarily for training and youth team matches, as major national games are held elsewhere. Its protected monument status since 2018 ensures the structure remains well-preserved and the original design is maintained.

The stadium is built directly into Thillenberg hill, with one entire side of spectator seating integrated into the natural slope. This approach makes it unusual among football grounds, where the landscape itself becomes part of the structure.
