Sanem Castle

Sanem Castle is a Renaissance structure in Sanem, Luxembourg, featuring a rectangular courtyard with a preserved Gothic tower and architectural elements influenced by Italian design. The building's layout and stonework reflect both medieval and Renaissance periods.

The castle originated as a medieval fortress in the 13th century and underwent major reconstruction in 1557 following damage inflicted by French forces. This rebuild introduced Renaissance features that transformed its original medieval character.

The castle's name reflects the local family that shaped its identity over many generations. Visitors can still observe how spaces are used today and the connection between the building's design and the people who lived within its walls.

The castle now houses the Luxembourg School of Hospitality and Tourism, functioning as an educational campus in the southern region. Keep in mind that the site is an active school, so access may be limited to certain areas or times.

From the 1950s until 1999, the castle operated as Kannerschlass, providing shelter and care for children in need. This period of social service represents a meaningful chapter in the building's story beyond its aristocratic origins.
