Riga Radio and TV Tower

The Riga Radio and TV Tower is a steel structure rising 368.5 meters into the sky, supported by three massive pillars at its base. An observation deck sits inside, reached by four elevators, offering wide views across the city and the Riga Gulf.

Construction of this tower began in 1979 under Soviet direction and took nine years to complete, marking a milestone in Latvia's technological progress. The structure rose during a period when the region pursued engineering innovation and modernization.

The tower once hosted a restaurant where visitors could enjoy local food while looking out over the city. This dining space became a memorable part of how people experienced Riga from above.

The observation deck is accessible by public transport, particularly trolley buses 19 and 24 to the Zakusala stop. Visitors should plan their visit during clear weather for the best views across the city and surrounding area.

The tower's tip sways up to 2.4 meters up and down depending on the season, as temperature swings cause the steel structure to expand and contract. This invisible movement reveals how flexible the entire construction is in response to weather changes.
