Derna waterfalls, waterfall
Derna Waterfalls is a natural site in the Jebel Akhdar Mountains, about 7 kilometers south of the city center of Derna. Water flows over rocky cliffs from a seasonal river and drops around 20 meters into calm pools below.
The waterfalls are fed by Wadi Derna, a river that flows from the mountains during certain seasons. Over time, the site has become a destination for visitors drawn to the natural landscape and fresh water of the region.
You can walk from the city center on foot in less than an hour or use local buses and shared taxis from the bus station. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water with you, and aim to arrive early in the morning for quieter conditions and better light.
The light at sunrise and sunset creates shimmering reflections on the water that attract photographers looking for special shots. Birdwatchers find different species here that add sounds to the quiet environment with their calls.
