Mohammed V International Airport, International airport in Nouaceur Province, Morocco
Mohammed V International Airport is an international airport in Nouaceur Province, Morocco, located roughly 30 km southeast of Casablanca. It operates three passenger terminals and two parallel runways that handle most of Morocco's air traffic.
The facility began in 1943 as Berrechid Airfield, built by the United States Armed Forces during World War II. After the war it became Nouasseur Air Base and hosted American bombers until Moroccan independence.
The airport bears the name of King Mohammed V, who fought for Morocco's independence from French colonial rule. Its terminals display zellige tilework and handcrafted woodwork that welcome visitors with Moroccan craftsmanship.
A train connects the terminals with downtown Casablanca and runs regularly from the underground station. Travelers should allow enough time for check-in and security screening, especially during peak travel periods in summer and around holidays.
The facility draws 95 percent of its energy from renewable sources and uses wind and solar power for daily operations. This sustainable energy supply makes the airport one of the most environmentally friendly in Africa.
