The Oudaya museum holds traditional jewelry, textiles, ceramics, and clothing displayed within historic pavilions that feature Andalusian-style architecture and decorative details. The rooms are organized to show the variety of pieces across different sections and periods.
This collection was established in 1915 within pavilions built during Sultan Moulay Ismail's period, located inside a fortress that the Almoravids originally built in the 10th century. The site has been preserved over time and later converted to house these exhibits.
The collections show how different Moroccan regions made and valued jewelry, textiles, and clothing for celebrations and daily life. You can see pieces that were worn in mountain communities and urban centers, each reflecting local traditions and identity.
The museum sits within the Kasbah des Oudayas and is easily reached on foot from the old city center, with clear pathways through the historic pavilions. Wear comfortable shoes since you will walk through several connected rooms and some areas may have steps or uneven surfaces.
The collection includes a large section of blue and multicolored enameled ceramics from the 19th century displayed in two dedicated loggias. These particular rooms showcase one of the collection's lesser highlighted treasures and offer insight into the technical skill of the craftspeople.
