Building of the Parliament of Moldova, National parliament complex in Chișinău, Moldova
The Parliament of Moldova is the legislative assembly building of the country, designed with a distinctive form that resembles an open book supported by four vertical columns across its central section. The complex houses the representatives who make decisions for the nation within its modern structure in central Chișinău.
The structure was built between 1976 and 1979 as the headquarters for Moldova's Communist Party during the Soviet period. Following independence in 1991, it was converted to serve as the national parliament building.
The building sits on Stefan cel Mare Boulevard alongside other government offices, forming part of the administrative heart of the capital. It represents how the country's governance structures are physically organized and visible to the public.
The complex sits in the heart of Chișinău and is easily reached by public transport or on foot from central areas. Visitors should note that access may vary depending on parliamentary sessions, so checking ahead is advisable.
The building became the site of civil unrest in 2009 and subsequently required extensive renovation work. Parliamentary operations only resumed in 2014 after the repairs were fully completed.
