Ștefan cel Mare Central Park is a large green space in downtown Chișinău featuring walking paths, water fountains, and monuments scattered throughout. The landscaped grounds include seating areas and multiple routes for visitors to explore on foot.
The park was established in 1818 by the Russian Army Engineer Corps, making it the oldest public garden in Chișinău. Architect Alexander Bernardazzi later redesigned and reshaped the original layout significantly.
The Alley of Classics displays bronze busts honoring 28 Moldovan and Romanian writers, creating a space where visitors encounter names of major literary figures as they walk through the park. This section serves as an open-air tribute to the region's literary heritage, embedded within the everyday landscape.
The park sits between Stefan cel Mare Boulevard and 31 August Street, making it accessible from multiple directions. The paths are level and comfortable for walking, with rest areas positioned throughout the grounds.
The central monument displays a statue of Stefan cel Mare cast in bronze derived from Ottoman cannons captured during a 19th century conflict. This artistic choice transforms military relics into a symbol of peace standing in the heart of the city.
