Zubački kabao, Mountain summit in Orjen Range, Montenegro.
Zubački Kabao rises to 1,894 meters (6,214 feet) above sea level and features steep cliffs with deep valleys carved into the Dinaric Alps mountain system. The landscape displays sharp rocky ridges and distinctive basin formations typical of this alpine region.
The hiking trail to the peak was constructed in the 1880s by the Austro-Hungarian Army to facilitate a high-ranking visit in 1886. This infrastructure reflects the strategic importance placed on the location during that era.
The summit marks a natural boundary between Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, linking people from both sides of this border region. Local communities reference this peak when describing their mountain landscape.
Access begins at Orjen Saddle using marked trails that require good physical fitness. Visitors should bring sturdy hiking boots, weather-appropriate clothing, and plenty of water, as there is little shelter from sun or wind along the route.
From the peak, visitors can view four distinct landscapes in a single vantage point: the Trebinje basin, Popovo field, the Bay of Kotor, and the Adriatic Sea. This rare perspective connects several characteristic regions of the Balkans simultaneously.
