Korab Falls, Seasonal waterfall at Mount Korab, North Macedonia.
Korab Falls is a seasonal waterfall on Mount Korab that plunges about 138 meters down a steep rocky face. The water flows through a deep canyon surrounded by dense mountain forest and bare rock, creating a dramatic alpine setting.
The waterfall lies within Mavrovo National Park, established in 1949 to protect the alpine region straddling the border between North Macedonia and Albania. This protected area was created to preserve the mountain ecosystems and wildlife of the high peaks.
Local shepherds from nearby villages maintain traditional grazing practices in the mountain pastures surrounding the waterfall during summer months.
The hike starts from Nistrovo village and takes about four hours across varied terrain with several river crossings. Late spring and early summer offer the most impressive water flow, while visiting later in the year means less dramatic conditions.
The water is strongest between May and June when snowmelt flows down the mountain, but completely disappears later in summer. This extreme change makes the waterfall feel like completely different places depending on when you visit.
