Korab-Koritnik Nature Park, Nature park in Dibër County, Albania
Korab-Koritnik Nature Park is a large protected area in eastern Albania that contains mountain valleys, flowing rivers, glacier-formed lakes, underground caves, and deep canyons. The region is covered with dense forests that provide varied habitats for plants and animals.
The area received formal protection status in 2011 to preserve its natural ecosystems. This decision recognized the ecological importance of the region for protecting rare species and their habitats.
Local communities have long practiced seasonal livestock grazing across the mountain meadows within the park. This way of life has shaped the landscape and continues to support the production of dairy goods and honey using traditional methods.
The park is accessible through several hiking trails that vary in difficulty and length based on what you want to see. Visiting works best during warmer months when trails are in good condition and the weather is more predictable.
The territory contains more than 60 named mountains and sits at the intersection of several tectonic zones. This geological position makes it one of the oldest formations in Albania with a complex and valuable structure.
