Hsinbyume Pagoda
Hsinbyume Pagoda, White pagoda in Myanmar
Hsinbyume Pagoda is a stunning white structure on the northern side of Mingun in Sagaing Region, near Mandalay.
The pagoda was built in 1816 by Bagyidaw. It is dedicated to the memory of his first consort and cousin, Princess Hsinbyume.
Architecturally, the pagoda is modelled after the description of the mythical Sulamani Pagoda on Mount Meru.
Accessible from Mandalay by road or a ferry across the Irrawaddy River, the site offers tranquility and beautiful views.
Its distinctive circular terraces represent the seven mountain ranges around Mount Meru according to Buddhist cosmology.
