Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady, Xagħra

The Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady is a baroque church built from limestone, featuring a central dome completed in 1892 and two bell towers flanking the sides. The symmetrical façade and spacious interior showcase classical baroque design with carefully crafted details throughout.

The foundation stone was laid in 1815 after the local population had grown significantly and a larger building became necessary. The earlier 17th-century church was replaced to accommodate the expanding community.

The basilica functions as the spiritual center of Xagħra and displays its importance through elaborate altars and religious artworks inside. Visitors can observe how the community gathers here and continues to regard the place as central to local life.
