Tas-Salvatur, Concrete Jesus statue on Tas-Salvatur Hill, Malta

The white concrete Jesus statue rises 12 meters tall with arms stretching 6 meters wide on top of the 97-meter Tal-Merżuq hill near Marsalforn.

The current statue, installed in 1979, replaced multiple previous versions dating back to 1870, including a wooden cross erected by farmers in 1901.

The statue, modeled after Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer, faces toward Victoria city and serves as a religious symbol for the Gozitan community.

The steep pathway leading to the statue requires moderate physical effort, with the final section involving some climbing to reach the summit.

Local myths suggest the hill was a dormant volcano, leading residents to build the statue as protection, though geological studies confirm no volcanic activity exists.
