Fort Benghisa, Polygonal fort in Birżebbuġa, Malta

Fort Benghisa stands at the southernmost point of Malta, featuring ditches and earthen walls that form its pentagonal defensive perimeter.

The British military forces constructed Fort Benghisa between 1910 and 1912 as part of a strategic defense network protecting Marsaxlokk Harbour.

The fort represents the final example of British polygonal fortification architecture in Malta, demonstrating early 20th-century military engineering principles.

While the fort's interior remains closed to visitors, the exterior structure and surrounding area provide views of the Mediterranean coastline.

The construction required the demolition of a 17th-century Bengħisa Tower in 1915 to establish an unobstructed firing line for the fort's artillery.
