Hastings Gardens, Public garden on St. John's Bastion in Valletta, Malta.
Hastings Gardens is a public park located on St. John's Bastion in Valletta that stretches across two terraced levels. The space connects the upper areas near the Renzo Piano stairs with the fortified walls of St. John's and St. Michael's.
The park was established to honor Francis, Marquis of Hastings, a British governor of Malta who died in 1826. His burial within the grounds ties the location to Malta's period of British colonial rule.
The gardens display an Armenian cross-stone monument installed in 2009 that marks connections between Malta and Armenia. Visitors encounter this memorial in a public space dedicated to remembering shared historical moments between the two nations.
The garden is easily accessible right at the city gates, making it a natural first stop when entering Valletta's old town. The sloped terrain and stairs require basic mobility to explore all areas comfortably.
The gardens offer views across Marsamxett Harbour where multiple vantage points reveal Floriana, Msida, Sliema, and Manoel Island. These sightlines showcase Valletta's position in the middle of the bay and make the spot a favorite for photographers.
