Our Lady of Victories Parish Church, Baroque parish church in Senglea, Malta.
Our Lady of Victories is a Baroque church in Senglea featuring a symmetrical facade with two tall bell towers framing a central dome positioned on an elevated base. The interior layout follows a single main axis, leading worshippers toward the altar beneath the raised dome.
The church was designed and built in 1580 by architect Girolamo Cassar, making it an early example of Baroque architecture in Malta. It sustained severe damage during World War II but was completely reconstructed between 1946 and 1956.
The towering facade with its two bell towers has shaped how residents and visitors view the settlement's identity for centuries. Walking around the church, you experience a structure that remains central to local life and gathering.
The building opens at regular times throughout the week and can be entered from several points to accommodate different mobility needs. Plan your visit by checking local conditions beforehand, as occasional religious services may affect public access.
A marble statue of the Virgin Mary, 13 feet (4 meters) tall and sculpted by Emvin Cremona in 1955, crowns the roof of the church. This figure became an iconic addition to the island's skyline and remains one of the most distinctive visual elements when approaching the building.
