Kajuru Castle, Medieval castle in Kajuru, Nigeria.
Kajuru Castle is a granite stone castle built on a hilltop near the town of Kajuru in Kaduna State, Nigeria. The structure rises across several floors and includes towers, a courtyard, residential rooms, and basement areas.
The castle was built in the 1980s by a German couple as a private project inspired by Romanesque styles from Europe. It was originally a private residence and later opened to paying guests and visitors.
Kajuru Castle was built by a German couple and brings together European building styles with the rural setting of northern Nigeria. Today it is used mainly as a guesthouse and event venue, which is unusual for this part of Nigeria.
The castle sits around 45 kilometers from Kaduna, so a car is the most practical way to get there. Overnight stays are available, which allows visitors to spend more than just a few hours on site.
The granite blocks used to build the castle were taken directly from the rock of the hill on which it stands. This means the building material was quarried right on site, which shaped both the construction process and the final appearance of the walls.
