Crushed Rock, Mpape, Stone quarry in Mpape, Nigeria
The quarry features exposed rock formations, multiple terraces, and a central lake surrounded by steep cliffs and natural pathways throughout the site.
During the 1980s construction of Abuja as Nigeria's new capital, this quarry supplied essential building materials for the city's rapid development.
The name Mpape originates from the Gwari language, translating to 'rock', reflecting the geological characteristics that define this location.
Visitors can access three distinct viewing terraces connected by footpaths, with the site being most accessible during daytime hours from central Abuja.
The fracturing of an underground aquifer in this naturally fractured zone resulted in the formation of the central lake within the quarry.
