AFAS Live, Concert hall in Amsterdam-Zuidoost, Netherlands
AFAS Live is a concert hall in Amsterdam-Zuidoost that offers a large indoor space with modern technical equipment and capacity for several thousand visitors. The building features a flexible floor area and stands that can be adjusted depending on the event format.
Architect Frits van Dongen planned the building, which opened in February 2001 and has since hosted regular national and international performances. The venue was later rebranded several times and technically upgraded to keep pace with the demands of modern stage productions.
The hall takes its name from a Dutch software company and draws music fans from across the country who come to experience artists from many different styles. The stage and open interior allow the audience to stand close to the action or spread out further back.
The building sits right next to the Johan Cruijff Arena and connects directly to Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena station through a covered walkway. Visitors arriving by train, metro, or bus can reach the hall within a few walking minutes.
The building uses special wall panels and dampening materials that absorb sound and prevent music from reaching the surrounding residential areas. This technique allows very loud performances without disturbing neighbors.
