Archeon

Archeon is an archaeological open-air museum with reconstructed buildings spanning prehistoric times, the Roman period, and the Middle Ages. The structures demonstrate how people lived and worked across different chapters of Dutch history.

The museum was established in 1994 based on archaeological discoveries and knowledge from the Dutch region. It developed from uncertain beginnings into a recognized educational destination for ancient history.

Staff members dressed in period clothing demonstrate crafts, cooking, and daily trades from different eras as visitors walk through the grounds. You can watch them work and see how ordinary people lived and spent their days.

Visitors can walk through the grounds and explore the different areas at their own pace. The site also offers seasonal events and lodging options for those wanting to stay longer.

The museum displays sections of ancient Roman ships discovered in South Holland that are still being restored. These vessels offer insights into maritime technology and travel during Roman times.
