The 45-acre park features reconstructed buildings from prehistoric times, Roman era, and Middle Ages, where visitors explore different historical periods of Dutch history.
Founded in 1994 as an archaeological open-air museum, Archeon recovered from near bankruptcy in 1995 to become a recognized cultural institution by 2015.
Historical interpreters in period costumes demonstrate daily activities, crafts, and traditions from various eras, including Roman gladiator fights in the arena.
The park provides four-person lodges for extended stays, with access to seasonal events like winter ice skating and the Midwinter Fair.
Visitors can observe the ongoing restoration of ancient Roman Zwammerdam ships discovered in South Holland while learning about maritime archaeology.
