Erasmus University Rotterdam, Public university in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Erasmus University Rotterdam is a public institution of higher education in the Dutch city of Rotterdam with additional locations in The Hague. The institution divides into seven faculties focused on health, economics, government, and culture, spread across the five sites.
The university began in 1913 as a business school and received full university status in 1937. In 1973 it merged with the medical faculty of Rotterdam and took the name of its famous countryman.
The institution takes its name from Desiderius Erasmus, a scholar born in Rotterdam during the late 15th century who traveled across Europe as a theologian. His work shaped humanist thought of his era and remains valued in academic circles today.
The institution offers 13 international bachelor programs and more than 50 master programs taught in English. Visitors can learn about the campus through the website, and some faculties organize tours for interested individuals.
The academic medical center Erasmus MC ranks among the largest teaching hospitals in the Netherlands and specializes in trauma treatment. The facility also conducts research in cancer therapy and transplant medicine.
