Eye Filmmuseum, Film museum in Amsterdam Noord, Netherlands
Eye Filmmuseum is a film archive and screening venue in Amsterdam Noord, housed in a modern white building along the IJ waterfront. The architecture features sharp angles and large glass surfaces that open views toward the water.
The institute moved in 2012 from its former site in Vondelpark to this new building on the northern bank of the IJ. The relocation was meant to provide more space for the growing archive and make the collection accessible to a wider public.
The name plays on the English word for vision, linking sight to the experience of watching films. Visitors often gather in the public library to browse film books or attend workshops and lectures held regularly inside the building.
A free ferry from Central Station to the Buiksloterweg stop runs all day and night, bringing visitors to the museum within a few minutes. The entrance area with café is freely accessible, while tickets are needed for exhibitions and screenings.
Six interactive pods in the permanent exhibition let visitors browse through film history themselves using digital interfaces. Each pod covers a different theme, from early silent films to experiments with color and sound.
