Kasteel van Rhoon

Kasteel van Rhoon is a stone fortified castle featuring Empire-style windows on its front facade and preserved gabled facades with turrets at the rear. The building contains multiple decorated halls that serve different purposes today.

The Van Duyvelant family built this castle in 1432 as a fortified keep in an area affected by the 1421 flood. The new structure replaced an earlier building and underwent changes over subsequent centuries.

The Anna Hall displays gold leather wallpaper that dates back several centuries, while the Old Kitchen showcases wooden carvings and a large fireplace from an earlier era. These spaces reveal how wealthy families furnished and decorated their homes in past times.

The castle operates as a restaurant and event venue with multiple decorated halls available for weddings, concerts, and exhibitions. Visitors should plan ahead if they wish to tour specific areas or attend particular events.

The Catharina Theresia Hall once served as a courtroom for serious crimes, showing how the castle functioned as an administrative center. Today this room hosts events while its name preserves that historical role.
