Nine interconnected streets between Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht, Herengracht, and Singel canals feature over 140 registered historical buildings and monuments.
The area developed during Amsterdam's expansion in the 17th century, when these streets were created to connect the main canals of the Grachtengordel.
Street names like Berenstraat, Reestraat, and Wolvenstraat reflect the historical leather trade and animal skin processing activities that occurred in the district.
Visitors can reach the district by taking tram lines 13 or 17 to Westermarkt stop, with services running every five minutes from Amsterdam Central Station.
