Poelwijk

Poelwijk is an estate with a tower located in Gendt, Netherlands, and is surrounded by a moat. The property features fruit gardens and natural landscapes around the fortified structure.

The tower was originally built in the 13th century as a defensive structure. Over time it was transformed into a residential building, particularly during the 18th century.

The first floor displays trompe-l'oeil wall paintings from 1702 showing a temple scene. These frescoes were commissioned when the owner at that time wanted to update the interior with artistic decorations.

Excavations in the 20th century revealed foundations of two earlier towers, showing that multiple fortifications were built successively at this location. The remains indicate repeated building activity over several centuries.
