Anne Frankplantsoen, Memorial park in Eindhoven Centrum, Netherlands
The Anne Frankplantsoen is a park in the city center that runs along the Dommel River and features exotic trees throughout its grounds. Several walking paths wind through the green spaces and lead to a bronze and granite monument.
The monument was unveiled in 1990 and commemorates 304 Jewish citizens who lost their lives during the persecution from 1940 to 1945. The site marks the sorrow and history of the community during the Holocaust.
The site is named after the famous girl and serves as a gathering place for remembrance of the city's Jewish community. Visitors leave stones there, continuing an old Jewish tradition of honoring the deceased.
The park is located near cafes and restaurants where you can rest before or after your visit. Benches are placed throughout the space, allowing you to sit and observe the surroundings at your own pace.
A bronze relief depicts the face of the famous girl on a dark granite pedestal, designed by artist Theo van Brunschot. The work connects personal memory with remembrance of an entire community.
