Aalstermolen

The Aalstermolen is a round stone tower mill standing on an artificial hill in Waalre-dorp, with sails spreading across its top. The building has a sturdy stone structure designed to process large quantities of grain using wind power to turn its machinery.

A destructive fire in 1936 severely damaged the mill, but the community rebuilt it afterward. Materials and parts from another mill in Roermond were used in the reconstruction, making it a more modern structure.

The mill served as a gathering place where farmers from surrounding villages brought their grain to be processed. This work brought people together and formed an important part of rural community life in the region.

The mill is located at Raadhuisstraat 28A in Waalre-dorp and is easy to spot from outside. Though it is not open for public visits, the architecture and structure can be appreciated from the surrounding area.

After its reconstruction, this mill became the first in the Netherlands to receive the modern Van Bussel wing system. This advanced technology made the mill more efficient and represented a significant technical improvement for its era.
