Eikenburg, Educational complex in Eindhoven, Netherlands
Eikenburg is a school building in Eindhoven with three wings surrounding an open courtyard, connected through a chapel on Aalsterweg 289. The complex features red Belgian brick, recessed windows, and a cruciform chapel dome decorated inside with painted biblical scenes above tile wainscoting.
French Redemptorists acquired the former De Heihoef estate in 1881, which then passed to the Brothers of Charity in 1894. They established a boarding school here and shaped the complex's architectural form over many decades.
The red brick facades and ornate rooflines reveal construction spans across multiple decades. The chapel with its biblical imagery served as a gathering place where visitors and residents could pause for reflection.
The building now functions as an educational center with higher education programs and is visible from the outside. Visitors should keep in mind it remains an active institution, so some areas may not be freely accessible.
The chapel has a rare cruciform layout with a central dome opening that directs light onto the painted biblical scenes. This architectural solution created an intimate space that was intentionally preserved during restoration work.
