Eindhoven Water Towers, Water tower complex in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
The Eindhoven Water Towers comprise three spherical tanks mounted on independent support columns that rise approximately 43 meters high. Each tank measures about 10 meters in diameter and collectively supply water across the city.
The facility was planned in the 1960s after the earlier Willem Elsschotlaan water station proved inadequate for the growing city's needs. Architect Wim Quist designed this replacement with its three-tank approach as a more efficient solution.
The towers showcase how 1970s modern Dutch architecture embraced simple geometric shapes and functional design in the city. Their stark appearance became a symbol of Eindhoven's forward-thinking industrial character.
The complex is located at Anthony Coolenlaan and viewable from the street, with the three towers visible from multiple angles. Visiting in early morning or late afternoon offers better lighting conditions for viewing and photography.
What sets this complex apart is that it was pioneering in using three completely separate tanks instead of a single large container. This distributed approach allowed better control and flexibility in managing water supply.
