Gebroken Cirkel, Land art installation near Yde, Netherlands.
Gebroken Cirkel is a land art installation near Yde that combines a circular formation with farmland, stream valley landscape, and sections of young forest. The work spans across the terrain and weaves together natural and designed elements into a single composition.
The installation was created in 2010 by artist Derk den Boer and marks the location where workers discovered the Yde Girl bog body in 1897. This archaeological find connected the modern artwork to an important moment from the past.
The centerpiece is a tree-shaped labyrinth built with 600 field stones from the Tynaarlo area, and these stones guide visitors inward toward a large boulder at the heart of the composition.
The site has walking paths that connect to regional hiking routes, making it easy to explore the surrounding landscape. You can enter and walk through on foot from the adjacent farmland.
The central boulder bears three distinct colors - blue, green, and red - which the artist considered the soul of the work. This hidden symbolic layer gives the labyrinth an extra meaning that visitors can discover as they reach the center.
