Castle Gardens Arcen is a large garden complex in Arcen featuring multiple distinct themed sections spread across the property, each designed to showcase different plant collections and landscaping styles. The grounds include rose gardens, Asian garden areas, sections with water features and elevated terrain, and various other specialized garden zones.
The gardens underwent a major redesign in the late 1980s when a landscape architect reimagined the grounds with new specialized sections. The transformed property opened to visitors in 1988 and established the foundation for what exists today.
The gardens bring together plant traditions from around the world, with Mediterranean areas standing next to Asian sections and other themed spaces that reflect how different gardening styles can coexist. Visitors experience these influences through the layout and plantings in each distinct area.
The gardens are open from spring through autumn, giving visitors plenty of time to explore the different sections throughout the day. On-site facilities include a restaurant and shop where you can take breaks or purchase items during your visit.
The grounds are home to one of the oldest fig trees in the Netherlands, a venerable specimen with notable age and presence. Additionally, thousands of rose specimens bloom across the property, each representing different varieties with distinct characteristics.
