Kasteel Arcen

Kasteel Arcen is a Renaissance château surrounded by two moats that ring its perimeter. The structure is built with brick and features stone accents, with connected wings and rooms spread across multiple levels.

The castle was built between 1511 and 1522 and replaced an earlier settlement from the 14th century. Over time its layout and features were adapted to meet the changing needs of those who lived there.

The castle displays rooms with original furnishings and details that show how residents lived in different periods. These spaces give visitors a sense of daily life and tastes across several centuries.

The grounds are reached by marked paths, and parking is available near the entrance for visitors. Comfortable shoes are recommended since the interior has stairs and ramps connecting different levels.

Archaeological findings on the grounds revealed traces of two ancient garden mazes, among the earliest known in this region. These discoveries show that the estate was designed as a garden and pleasure site from an early period.
