Ultra

Ultra is a steel sculpture on Emmasingel street in Schildersbuurt and consists of weathering steel, cast iron, and stainless steel components. The 8 meter tall figure depicts a woman on stilts and stands permanently in the public space.

The sculpture was commissioned by the city of Groningen and designed by artist Silvia B. It was installed in 2004 and has remained as a public artwork ever since.

The sculpture depicts a female figure on stilts, incorporating contemporary design elements that reflect modern societal trends and fashion statements.

The sculpture stands permanently on Emmasingel and is always accessible to visitors. The artwork requires regular maintenance since its different materials need varying levels of care.

The artwork began as a tiny 8-centimeter model that was then enlarged and transported by boat from Hardinxveld to its current location. This unusual creation process reveals the complexity of constructing large artworks from steel components.
